Libertex announced today that it will be continuing its partnership with the football player James Rodriguez. The Columbian player has been sponsored by the Cyprus-based FX broker since 2016.

Today’s announcement continues a busy couple of weeks in the niche market of FX football sponsorship. Just yesterday, Sunny Singh, a former LMAX Marketing executive, announced the creation of his Van Hawke agency that will look to connect sports teams and personalities with FX and cryptocurrency companies.

The increasing number of sports teams and figures being sponsored by FX firms was also put under the spotlight last week by Robert Ophele, the president of French regulator the Autorité des marchés financiers. Ophele censured Atletico Madrid, a Spanish football team, for allowing themselves to be sponsored by Plus500, an FX broker.

"Everyone has the opportunity to reach their goal in the world of finance"

Given today’s announcement, neither Libertex nor Rodriguez, seem to have been dismayed by Ophele’s comments as the partnership between the player and firm looks set continue. The broker did not disclose how much Rodriguez will be receiving for promoting their services. It is also unclear as to what trading positions Rodriguez takes or whether he goes in for the firm’s Litecoin CFDs.

The attacking Midfielder who, when he isn’t trading FX, plays his football for German club Bayern Munich, commented on the ongoing partnership, saying: "To achieve success in professional football, you have to hone your skills every day and keep pushing forwards towards your goal. In the world of finance, the same rule applies. Thanks to the Libertex Trading Platform , everyone has the opportunity to reach their goal in the world of finance."
