Azul Systems has announced that Zing, their Java Virtual Machine (JVM) technology, has been chosen by interbroker Tradition to be deployed in their trading platforms. According to Azul Systems, Tradition chose to integrate their technology to provide “faster and more predictable trade execution”.
The integration with Tradition is the latest in a recent set of financial industry related deals for Azul Systems. Earlier this year they were chosen by Quotix, who had integrated Zing into their FX aggregation technology. Similar to C#, the overall performance of Java based platforms can be improved with customized solutions for operating their virtual machines, which Zing provides for Java.

“The process of moving from an existing JVM to Zing is simple. The steps involved after installing are to change the way the JVM application starts with any specific JVM flags, these are usually in the customers start up scripts,” Myan Azul Systems representative told Finance Magnates. “The time to do this is usually a few hours, what we may then do is a few tuning runs with the prospect, as Zing has solved the GC issue, other tuning and insights are possible, we might spend a day or two on that and reviewing data and our tools with a new customer.”
In regards to the deployment of Zing, Yann L’Huillier, Group Chief Information Officer at Tradition, stated “For a number of years we have been investing significantly in our infrastructure to ensure we offer our clients a best in class service. Azul is recognised within the financial services sector as a provider of technology which enhances performance and ensures a predictability of trade execution. Once we had successfully tested Zing and measured its clear benefits, it was an easy decision to make to incorporate Zing into our trading infrastructure.”
Scott Sellers, CEO of Azul Systems added “It is widely recognized that with a conventional JVM, trading systems are not able to deliver consistent low latency with high scalability and certainty of execution. Zing removes the shortcomings of Java such as inconsistent response times and application jitter, thereby improving trade execution and ultimately overall profits.”
