gmail address??
It feels like there are a dozen or so cypriotic MT4 providers already. Is there still room left?
By the way, why do they all register in Cyprus? Lax regulation, or favourable tax treatment?

A gmail address also means they don’t have to give their company name away. They probably want to make sure their service/company is 100% ready and sexy before revealing itself to the masses.
If I was younger and more mobile, I would totally be up for a job there. Cyprus sounds like a great place to live!

Cyprus is certainly nice for vacation, but living there? I dont know. Its sort of provincial. And lots of russians.
I still dont get why so many set up in Cyprus. As far as FX is concerned, London is the center of the world, and clearly, if “well developed for forex” is the criteria, thats the place to be.

Andy: 1) Cyprus has only 10% corporate tax 2) With a good accountant you can claim write-offs and returns so that your effective tax is around 2.5% 3) Its part of the EU and therefore you can passport your license to any European country 4) Large talent pool due to a very large forex community already present in the country. 5) Setting up and operating a financial service company in Cyprus costs about 10% of what a London office of the same size would cost you (rent/ salaries/ taxes/ operating expenses are much higher in London) 6) Dividends to shareholders… Read more »

Cyprus is the favored location for brokers operating out of Israel.
With great techies and a large number of foreign nationals who speak all languages, this is the ideal place to unofficially run an FX operation.

Unofficially = We are not from Israel … We are just a Cyprus company.
Hi Ricardo,
It’s not a new regulator rather it’s a forex lobby – the aim of which is to talk to forex regulators and promote forex interests. Basically this group is here to preserve forex interests, not to regulate or limit them.
Generally speaking, nobody can prevent you from trading forex. If your government will ban forex you can always trade with a broker based outside of your country.
Best,
Michael

Not just from Israel fxanon there are cypriot russian, italian, middle eastern; and soon the asian brokers will travel over, you are right about the fx ecosystem being present. i was in Cyprus in June and was pleasantly surprised about the way they have taken to the fx markets.

Ok, i understand. You can get an EU-passport on the cheap and it has favourable tax implications for the stakeholders. Still, from a reputational viewpoint and as a client, i would much prefer a London based firm.

it’s same regulation as everywhere in europe basically as it’s same mifid framework, cyprus became quite the hub for fx brokers also because of the readily available staff and facilities
whatever the case is, it seems it’s going to be a very ugly case: h ttp://blogs.fxstreet.com/francesc/2010/06/07/saxo-bank-strikes-back-and-sues-portuguese-fortune/
