FINRA Appoints Erozan Kurtas as Head of Advanced Data Analytics

Erozan Kurtas will join the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) organization as its newest head of advanced data Analytics Analytics Analytics may be defined as the detection, analysis, and relay of consequential patterns in data. Analytics also seeks to explain or accurately reflect the relationship between data and effective decision making. In the trading space, analytics are applied in a predictive manner in an attempt to more accurately forecast the price. This predictive model of analytics generally involves the analysis of historical price patterns that are used in an attempt to determine certain price outcomes. In his new role as the head of advanced data analytics and senior vice president, Mr. Kurtas will be reporting to Richard Ketchum, FINRA Chairman and CEO and Executive Vice President for Regulatory Operations Susan Axelrod.

He will begin his new role as of February 23, 2015. His tasks will include the oversight and development of FINRA's data analytics capabilities.

According to Mr. Ketchum in a recent statement on the appointment, "It is critical for regulators to use 21st-century data analytics in order to keep up with 21st-century markets. Building on his pioneering work at the SEC, Erozan and his team will develop cutting-edge data analytics tools to help FINRA better utilize the data we collect in order to fulfill our mission of protecting investors and ensuring the integrity of our markets.”
