Play-to-earn (P2E) took the world by storm in 2021, allowing players to accrue substantial financial benefits for simply participating in in-game activities. The rise of crypto, especially non-fungible tokens (NFTs) has everyone exploring the P2E sector, which saw an increase of approximately $2 billion in revenue in the third quarter of 2021.

Besides P2E and NFT, Metaverse also ruled last year, which Goldman Sachs predicts to be an $8 trillion opportunity. This is in line with other predictions, such as Ark CEO Cathie Wood, who sees metaverse as a multi-trillion-dollar market.

With so much potential in P2E and metaverse, investors are flocking to such projects in masses. Recently, Affyn, a Play-to-Earn Metaverse project successfully raised $20 million in several sounds.

Its latest round of fundings comes after its recent public listing, as well as a successful Presale and Launchpad round and oversubscribed Private and Strategic rounds.

The Singapore-based company integrates the real world and the virtual world to offer the Free-to-Play, Play-to-Earn mobile game. For this, Affyn utilizes blockchain technology such as NFT, augmented reality ("AR") mechanics, and geolocation technology.

Affyn is currently developing a Metaverse called "NEXUS," in which users explore, play, and participate in activities based on their geolocation.

In this metaverse, built based on a digital layer mapped to the real world, players can capture in-game NFT characters called “Buddies”. Users can further train “Buddies” to participate in quests, raids, and player-versus-player battles.

Besides having ownership of these Buddy NFTs, you can play with them interactively. In the future, Affyn also plans to allow Buddies to be transferred to other games and they may retain similar attributes too.

To help with the project development, the company is planning to increase its headcount and is hiring across game development and engineering. The trailer video for the NEXUS Metaverse will be released in February.

For the past year, the Affyn team has been developing a closed-loop ecosystem with sustainability at the forefront of its economy. The company is creating a system with a broader long-term view in mind by focusing on multiple revenue streams that include business-to-business collaboration and an advertising revenue model.
