Mankoff events continue to shed light on High Frequency Trading in FX

Foreign exchange has been the best performing asset class in the last decade in terms of volume growth. The most recent BIS survey stands at around $4 trillion in daily volume. The summer of 2011 has had stronger than expected volatility with the VIX index showcasing above the all important figure of 30 throughout August and September. Among the major currencies, the Swiss franc experienced the biggest gain, strengthening 2.20% versus the dollar and 1.69% against the euro. The yen and euro appreciated 1.39% and 0.50%, respectively, versus the US dollar. For the quarter, the Swiss franc gained 9.64%, the euro rose 1.89% and the yen increased 3.55% versus the dollar.

Since the credit crisis regulators have been looking at the many factors that affected the overhaul of giants like bear Stearns and Lehman Brother, OTC derivatives!

The new Dodd Frank rulings, EU commission and MIFID 2 are issues the industry is facing.
