The Women's World Cup begins on 20 July 2023. eToro, a social trading platform , is looking to take advantage of heightened interest in football during this time, announcing sponsorship deals with four UK football clubs.

Among the clubs mentioned are Arsenal, Crystal Palace, Everton, and West Ham, which all compete in the top tier of women's and men's football leagues.

eToro Signs Sponsorship Deals with Four Football Clubs

The sponsorship deal with these teams pertains to the upcoming season and is not limited only to women's squads as it also includes men's teams. However, eToro has clearly indicated in its press release that it wants to increase its presence in women's sports, especially in the Women's Super League (WSL).

eToro hopes this move will allow it to reach a growing group of female retail investors. Their share in the overall client base surged during the pandemic to a record high of 33%. Moreover, the Women's World Cup 2019 final had drawn a record audience of 540 million. Organizers predict that this record will be broken again this year.

"Football and investing have traditionally been male dominated activities but in the last few years, this has been turned on its head," Stephanie Wilks-Wiffen, the Director of Marketing at eToro, commented.

Arsenal, Crystal Palace, Everton, and West Ham will provide eToro with advertising space around their stadiums. The company also wants to engage in events that build brand awareness among sports fans.

"With the explosion of women's football, and the growing number of female retail investors, it makes complete sense for eToro to have a presence at women's games, where we can support the continued growth of this sporting community," Wilks-Wiffen added.

eToro is not only increasing its engagement in women's sports, but also in British sports. Recently, the company partnered with Premiership Rugby, an English professional rugby union league.

eToro Actively Engages in Football Sponsorship

For eToro, the latest sponsorship deal is not its first venture into football or with British football clubs. Nearly two years ago, eToro partnered with Arsenal, expanding its global portfolio of sports relationships. The sponsorship agreement has been extended for another season, including the women’s team.

"Our extended partnership with eToro is another strong indicator of growth in women's football and our continued investment to make the game a strong proposition for our partners," commented Juliet Slot, the Chief Commercial Officer at Arsenal.

eToro recently partnered with the Dutch football club, AZ Alkmaar, and its current number of sponsored teams nearly reaches 20. In 2020, the company added as many as 12 teams to the list of sponsored entities at roughly the same time.

Furthermore, the social trading titan is expanding its range of interests to other sports. Proof of this is the first sponsorship deal in basketball with the Spanish club Baskonia.
