Following the software upgrade applied to the MetaTrader 4 trading platform during the course of the weekend, a number of brokers have experienced orders not being filled and open positions not being displayed in various broker databases subsequent to the upgrade having been applied.
It is evident that this has affected many brokers which operate the MetaTrader 4 platform, although not all. MetaQuotes often forces updates to client servers in an effort to protect the connectivity protocols and deliver new features across the board to all brokers, ensuring continuity and standardization across the board.

In some cases, when performing updates, MetaQuotes will send a live update to broker servers even if the live update setting is switched off. It is quite possible that this can cause the modification of a data structure and therefore corrupt an orders database.
Some technology providers experienced technical incompatibilities, as in the case of Tools For Brokers, who published a notice to their clients that the release of MetaTrader 4 build 482 affected their Orders Add function and trade duplicator plugins. MetaQuotes have confirmed that this will be resolved in build 483.
Forex Magnates have spoken to some of the brokers concerned, which are currently in the process of documenting what actually happened and the level to which it affected their order system, and will endeavor to publish these when known.

I had a very difficult time with alpari UK to solve this issue and still talking to them. I Ha d initiated many trades on sunday night and all of them were in profit but not visible on the terminal to close it. They said they have been deleted.

Ubaith: I think that is as good a deal as you can expect. Rule of thumb is that an erroneous fill can be amended or busted – but hypothetical profits from trades, that never actually were sent to the broker, can not be compensated. I have had rather expensive technical glitches (from brokers as well as exchanges, and not only fx) where the only response was “tough luck”. Its all in the ToS. If you have accounts at more than one firm, you could have hedged. But that is dangerous too, since during technical difficulties you often don’t know if… Read more »

Why, after all these years, does metaquotes continue to FORCE updates like this? Isn’t there a scaled in approach to implementing software?
There should be a clear division between essential and nonessential updates; so that core functionality does not get broken unnecessarily.
How will other competitors like cTrader resolve such software patch pushes?

Well, Now they have solved the issue and deleted all my orders. Gave me $25 as a good will gesture. That was very nice of them which could completely replace my nearly GBP 600 worth of positions. They also told me that If I want they will reopen my positions to which I answered them sarcastically to open them when it rallied few hundred pips in my favour.
