Chinese Ewallet and subsidiary of Ecommerce titan Alibaba, AliPay was added to Yahoo! Shopping Japan as a fully supported payment option.

The news comes as no surprise give the partnership between Alibaba and Yahoo!. Alibaba acquired Yahoo!’s Chinese entity, www.yahoo.com.cn and acquired a portion of Yahoo! led E-retail website, ShopRunner.

The new support on the Japanese website is made available through a co-op partnership with an unnamed overseas Shopping Proxy agent, according to Alipay. Since the beginning of the year Alibaba with Alipay have begun expanding outside of Mainland China and offer support in Taiwan and Hong Kong.

The expansion includes a new product called Alipay On-site which is a digital POS service that supports QR code and other scan-to-pay solutions. Alipay On-site allows physical bricks-and-mortar merchants to accept the popular payment method. Alipay also offers solution for North America to allow American and Canadian merchants to sell to Chinese customers.

Alipay is the most popular alternative payment method in China with over 300 million registered users. Alibaba has been pushing users to primarily use its mobile application as opposed to the desktop variant. The Alipay mobile application offers a plethora of service which include store purchases, Taxi hailing, and vending machine support.
