The Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) Holdings (NASDAQ: CBOE), a paramount operator of the US equity options market, has reported its volumes for the month ending September 2015, according to a CBOE statement.

During September 2015, CBOE Holdings reported a total trading volume for options contracts on Chicago Board Options Exchange, C2 Options Exchange, and futures contracts on CBOE Futures Exchange of 104.0 million, plunging lower by -16.9% MoM from 125.2 million contracts in August 2015.

The recent downtrodden figures were also lackluster over a yearly timeframe, with September 2015’s volumes at the CBOE marking a decrease of -4.6% YoY from 109.0 million contracts in September 2014.

In addition, total options and futures average daily volume (ADV) at CBOE Holdings during September 2015 yielded just 5.0 million contracts, relating to a decrease of -17.0% MoM from 6.0 million contracts in August 2015 and a drop of -4.6% from 5.2 million in September 2014.

CBOE Volumes

Across its options business, Chicago Board Options Exchange ADV came in at 4.4 million contracts in September 2015, down -17.0% MoM from 5.3 million contracts in August 2015, coupled with a dive of -5.0% YoY from September 2014. The exchange-wide trading volume totaled 92.6 million contracts in September 2015, grinding lower by -17.0% MoM from 111.0 million contracts in August 2015.

In terms of ADV, index options in September 2015 managed to rise 36.0% MoM from August 2015, while ADV in exchange-traded product (ETP) options fell by -7.0% and equity options also plunged by -36.0% MoM from August 2014.

C2 Option Exchange

Furthermore, C2 Option Exchange’s September 2015 trading volume totaled 6.2 million contracts, down -20.5% MoM from 7.8 million contracts in August 2015 and a move lower of -21.0% YoY from September 2014. Meanwhile, ADV was reported at 293,704 contracts in September 2015, a -20.6% MoM decrease from 369,808 contracts in July 2015 and a -19.0% drop YoY from September 2014.

VIX Futures

Finally, CBOE Futures Exchange released a September 2015 ADV in VIX futures of 251,207 contracts, constituting a -17.6% drop from 304,964 contracts in August 2015 and 41.0% uptick YoY from September 2014. Additionally, total volume in VIX futures for September 2015 was 5.3 million contracts, down -17.0% MoM from 6.4 million contracts in August 2015 and up 41.0% from September 2014.
