Thailand’s Department of Special Investigation (DSI) has arrested a senior executive linked to an alleged forex investment fraud, as a cross-agency investigation expands into the country’s political sphere.

A sitting Member of Parliament is among 22 people now being questioned as investigators examine the alleged political links of the scheme after a court declined to issue arrest warrants.

The latest development follows raids at 24 locations under the “Shutdown the Laundering” operation, which targeted a network of trading platforms, introducing brokers and payment providers.

Senior Executive Arrested

The executive faces charges including public fraud, money laundering and operating unlicensed securities and futures businesses, according to the Bangkok Post.

Thai authorities allege that the company attracted investors by promising returns of between 20% and 30% within seven days. Investigators also claim that it delayed order execution and displayed prices that differed from those available in the wider market.

Clients attempting to withdraw funds were allegedly asked to pay advance taxes or additional fees. Losing clients were also reportedly encouraged to become introducing brokers and recruit new participants in exchange for commissions and bonuses.

Company Cites Offshore Registrations

In a separate Facebook statement addressing its regulatory status, the company cited a Mwali brokerage licence, MSB registrations in the United States and Canada, an FSP registration in New Zealand and membership of the Financial Commission.

However, MSB and FSP registrations do not by themselves authorise a company to offer retail forex, securities or derivatives trading. The statement did not address the arrest or the specific allegations made by Thai investigators.

Political Links under Scrutiny

Finance Magnates previously reported that investigators disclosed 14 transfers totalling 28 million baht into accounts linked to the politician.

Authorities stressed that the transfers alone do not constitute evidence of wrongdoing. The lawmaker has denied involvement in the alleged scheme and said the funds were connected to gold trading activity that ended several years ago.

The DSI has summoned the politician for questioning but has not announced any charges.

The case indicates that Thai enforcement is expanding beyond trading websites to the individuals, payment channels and local infrastructure supporting their operations.

Finance Magnates contacted the arrested executive and representatives of companies linked to the investigation but had not received a response by publication time.
