Airwallex has received a Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID) license from the Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM), enabling it to launch its Yield product in the Netherlands. The license allows the company to offer money market fund investments to European small and medium-sized businesses.

Licence Unlocks New Revenue Option for Firms

With the new authorization, Airwallex will offer multi-currency investment options in euros, pounds, and US dollars. The service will allow businesses to earn returns without lock-up periods or term deposit restrictions.

Yield will integrate directly into the Airwallex platform. Businesses will be able to move funds between cash and investment accounts at any time, eliminating the need for multiple bank accounts across currencies.

Commenting about the move, Shannon Scott, the SVP and Global Head of Product at Airwallex, said: “Receiving our MiFID licence is the first step to launching Yield in the Netherlands and will get us one step closer to providing European businesses with a smarter way to make their money work harder.”

“Instead of leaving surplus funds idle, companies will soon be able to earn competitive returns while keeping full flexibility to access their cash whenever they need it,” Scott added.

Netherlands Growth Fuels Product Rollout

The Dutch launch follows similar rollouts in Australia, Hong Kong, and Singapore. Airwallex has reported expansion in the Netherlands, driven by a rise in customer accounts, new products, and senior hires in risk and compliance .

Notably, crypto exchanges are also eying MiFID licenses. About a week ago, Bybit CEO and co-founder Ben Zhou confirmed that the company was applying for a MiFID II license in the EU.

The license would allow the crypto exchange to offer regulated derivatives products, including futures and options, to European clients, expanding its services beyond its existing MiCA registration, which only covered spot crypto trading.

Meanwhile, Airwallex signed a multi-year sponsorship deal with Arsenal Football Club last month, expanding its sports marketing portfolio beyond its existing partnership with McLaren's Formula One team.

The agreement made Airwallex Arsenal's Official Finance Software Partner and named the Melbourne-based company as the presenting partner for the club's pre-season tour across eastern Asia.

Arsenal said the deal would cover both its men's and women's teams, giving Airwallex branding rights and content opportunities during Premier League and Women's Super League matches at Emirates Stadium.
