Sucden Financial Bolsters Commodities Focus, Adding Gary Herbert

In his newest role as the Senior Coffee Broker, Mr. Herbert will be tasked with expanding the group's coffee business

Sucden Financial has appointed another appointment to its commodities division, this time naming Gary Herbert as its newest Senior Coffee Broker, according to a Sucden Financial statement.

The latest move is the second in as many months, after Sucden Financial also brought in Michael Donovan as its Senior Cocoa Broker in late June, whose mandate saw the ongoing development of the group’s cocoa business in London. Mr. Donovan joined Sucden Financial from Jefferies Bache, having served as its Senior Cocoa Trader and Vice President for a number of years.

In his newest role as the Senior Coffee Broker at Sucden Funancial, Mr. Herbert will be tasked with expanding the group’s coffee capabilities and business in London. Like Mr. Donovan, Mr. Herbert joins Sucden from Jefferies Bache, where he worked as its Head of Coffee Futures out of London.

Additional stops also include ED&F Man Commodity Advisors, TRX Futures Limited and, TRX Futures Inc (Miami), having worked in a number of senior level roles with a distinct focus on commodities.

According to Mark Cooper, Co-Head of the Softs team at Sucden Financial in a recent statement on the appointment, “Gary has extensive experience and is well known in the coffee industry. He will be responsible for increasing our coffee futures and options business in London and will add a further depth of knowledge to the desk.”

“Sucden Financial has a strong and established reputation in soft commodities and I am very pleased to be joining a great team,” added Mr. Herbert in an accompanying statement.
