SGX Appoints Lawrence Wong as Head of China Business

Prior to joining SGX in April 2006, Mr. Wong was general manager of Schroders’ joint venture for Greater China based in Shanghai as early as 1997. He was also involved in OCBC Bank’s China business during his tenure as one of the bank’s senior management team. He currently represents SGX as a member in seven collaboration councils set up by Singapore with Guangdong, Jiangsu, Liaoning, Shandong, Sichuan, Tianjin and Zhejiang to promote bilateral economic, business, trade and investment activities.
According to Magnus Bocker, CEO of SGX in a recent statement on the appointment, “China is a key market in SGX’s strategy for our future growth and international footprint. The continual expansion of our on-the-ground presence in China will enable us to better capitalise on long term growth opportunities whether for fund-raising, indices or commodities.”
“I am delighted that Lawrence will take on the role as head of our China business. His significant industry experience and his extensive network in China will be vital to the growth of our business and relationships there, particularly with customers and regulators. Lawrence is a seasoned China hand and I am confident that he will successfully deliver and execute our growth plan for China,” he added.
