JPMorgan logoJPMorgan Chase & Co’s Chairman of China investment banking, Gong Fangxiong – also known as Frank Gong – has announced his abrupt retirement from his role, creating a notable void for the group.

Mr. Gong will stay with JPMorgan & Chase during a transition period, despite relinquishing his role on Wednesday. It is unknown who his immediate replacement is at this time.

Mr. Gong joined JPMorgan’s investment banking group back in 2009, having received a chairman post less than a year ago in March. Previously he held senior level roles as the Head of China research and Chief China economist at JPMorgan.
