tpsynrex, a joint venture between interdealer broker Tullett Prebon and Synrex which has created a venue for liquidity and innovation in real estate investment, today announced the appointment of Gareth James as Managing Director, according to a Tullet Prebon company statement.
James brings with him over 20 years of alternative asset product and structuring expertise to the team set up by Stephen Ashworth and Mark Baker. He previously held the roles of Global Head of Hedge Fund Derivatives at Deutsche Bank and Global Head of Hedge Fund Solutions at UBS.

Gareth’s experience will help us drive the business forward as we look to make our mark in the real estate sector.
Setting out as a securitisation lawyer with Lovells, James has carved a niche in the design and structuring of investor products across all forms of alternative assets. He has also built successful independent businesses including the Liquid Alpha Alternative UCITS platform which was acquired by UBS in 2012.
Commenting on the appointment, Stephen Ashworth, Managing Director and co-founder of tpsynrex, said: “With our auction platform now ready to onboard clients, Gareth’s appointment comes at a key time for tpsynrex. Liquidity in tradable real estate derivatives has been badly hit by the withdrawal of banks from the sector, and tpsynrex is perfectly positioned to play a large role in reinvigorating an important institutional investment tool. We have a number of innovations in the pipeline that we believe will really transform the way real estate risk is traded. Gareth’s experience will help us drive the business forward as we look to make our mark in the real estate sector.”
