After a week in the month of July, many new hires have been appointed despite the lack of improvement in the price of Bitcoin as well as the overall view of the crypto market in the Forex, Crypto and Fintech universe. Let’s review the executives that have taken on new roles and challenges in our executive moves roundup of the week.

Ashley Alder Leaves SFC to Join United Kingdom’s FCA as Chair

On Friday, the United Kingdom’s Treasury confirmed that Ashley Alder has been appointed to be the new Chair of the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). He is expected to take up the new position in January 2023, and he has already stepped down as the CEO of Hong Kong’s Securities and Futures Commission.

Presently, the FCA is being led by Richard Lloyd in an interim capacity. The regulator has been looking for a permanent replacement after the resignation of Charles Randell. Earlier on, Alder was a contender for the post as the FCA’s CEO, but the commission appointed Nikhil Rathi to that post in 2020.

Adler will join the British regulator after a long tenure with Hong Kong’s financial market supervisor. From October 2011, he was the CEO until his recent resignation. Moreover, he is holding the position of the elected Chair of the International Organisation of Securities Commissions.

Steve Reeves Joins Equiti Capital UK Limited as Non-Executive Director

Equiti Capital Limited recently announced that the company has recruited Steve Reeves, an industry veteran with a wealth of experience in the broker-dealer sector, to its Board as a Non-Executive Director.

In Reeve's professional career of more than three decades, he took on a pivotal role in the growth of several leading financial firms. Previously, he held roles as the Group Finance Director for IFX Group, City Index and ODL Group, as well as the Managing Director for AxiCorp UK. Reeves will also chair the Board’s Audit and Risk Committee.

GCEX Expands into MENA, Hires Mehtap Önder as MD

GCEX is expanding into the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region with the opening of an office in Dubai. This coincided with the appointment of Mehtap Önder as the Managing Director of GECX MENA.

Önder will be in charge of overseeing all operational aspects of the company in the region. She brings more than 15 years of industry expertise to the post on top of her extensive experience working in the region. She was recruited by GCEX from Dubai-based Waystone Compliance Solutions where she was a Compliance Consultant for almost three years.

Kim Ljung Andersen Joins CMC Markets as Head of Institutional Product Solutions

Finance Magnates learned that Kim Ljung Anderson has been appointed to Head of Institutional Products Solutions at CMC Markets Connect.

According to an update on LinkedIn, he served as the Secretary of the Board of Helsingør Vinmuseumsforening before he joined the company and fulfilled his role as the Director of Saxo Advanced Solutions at Saxo Bank for over 18 years.

Over the course of his tenure at Saxo Bank, he took on the responsibilities of sales and integration of the bank’s partner business, designing and verifying any impact of how to operate within the Chinese firewall with or without roundtrips to Hong Kong. Also, between 2002 and 2004, he was employed by Interse as a Senior Developer.

Exclusive: Themis Christou Joins The Trading Pit as CMO

In an exclusive with Finance Magnates, Themis Christou, the former Interim CMO at Tickmill, confirmed that he has been onboarded by The Trading Pit, an emerging financial trading services provider, as the Chief Marketing Officer.

Christou will play an integral part in navigating The Trading Pit’s marketing strategy. Additionally, he is intending to utilize his broad experience in the global financial services industry to facilitate the company’s brand exposure.

Prior to The Trading Pit, he served M4Markets for almost two years as the Group Head of Marketing. Earlier on, the recently named CMO of The Trading Pit worked for more than four years with Illimar Mattus' Tickmill. In his tenure at Tickmill, Christou served in various high-ranking positions, including Global Head of Marketing Projects and Interim Chief Marketing Officer.

Sentinels Hires Adrian Jenkins as CCO, Aims to Tap UK Regtech Market

Sentinels is concentrating on its expansion in the UK with the recent hiring of Adrian Jenkins as the Chief Commercial Officer.

According to the press release shared with Finance Magnates on Tuesday, Jenkins, based in London, will be primarily responsible for the company’s growth, leading its sales, marketing and business development.

This appointment is strategic as the regtech company wants to leverage Jenkins’ industry experience to consolidate and build out its position in the United Kingdom market.

Emporium Capital Global Trading Hires Abdelhadi Laabi as New CMO

Finance Magnates has learned that Abdelhadi Laabi has been onboarded by Emporium Capital Global Trading as its Chief Marketing Officer. According to an update on LinkedIn, Laabi recently exited his prior role as Marketing Director at XTB for over 10 months.

Prior to XTB, he served the MultiBank Group as the Marketing Manager. On top of that, he held a similar role in Marriott International for over three years, between 2015 and 2019. Further, Laabi worked as the Digital Marketing Manager for Alpari Group between 2014 and 2015.

Andrew Richards Becomes New Head of Prime Brokerage at ROSTRO Financial Group

Finance Magnates has discovered that Andrew Richards has been elected to be the Head of Prime Brokerage at ROSTRO Financial Group. According to an update on LinkedIn, he will be based in London, working for the company.

Before his experience at ROSTRO Financial Group, Richards was the Head of Prime Brokerage Sales and the Director of Primes Services Sales at BCS Global Markets between 2019 and 2022. He also worked as the Global Securities Finance Director at ING between 2018 and 2019.

Andrew Saks has recently departed from OvalX, formerly ETX Capital, Finance Magnates has exclusively learned.

A former editor at Finance Magnates, Leaprate, as well as the CEO and Founder of FinanceFeeds, Andrew exits his role as the Head of Research and Analysis at the London-headquartered OvalX after just a year having started in April 2021. This follows the sale of FinanceFeeds, which he founded in 2015.

Presently, it is unknown what Andrew's next chapter will be. His recently updated LinkedIn profile shows a 'TBA' under his profile name and a July 2022 end to his role at the financial services company founded in 1965.

Breaking: Mohammed Yaghi Is Leaving Orbex after 10 Years

Mohammed Yaghi announced that he is leaving Orbex after serving the company in several roles over approximately 10 years. Yaghi made this announcement on LinkedIn: "It’s an end of an era, after an incredible 10 years I’m leaving Orbex. It was not an easy decision to make as Orbex has always been a family to me.

"I am grateful to the people whom I’ve worked with and for everything I learned from them not to mention the priceless experience I gained over the years. It has been a real pleasure working with all of them as we navigated both the good times and the challenging times.

Arun Lakhani Becomes Operations Manager at BidX Markets

Arun Lakhani recently announced that he has joined BidX Markets as the Operations Manager. The announcement from Lakhani came a few days after he confirmed his departure from Equiti Capital having served for almost two years as the Partner Solutions Manager.

Earlier to Equiti Capital, Lakhani was part of Gold-i for more than five years. Lakhani took on the responsibilities of the Business Development Manager for more than one year. Additionally, he fulfilled other positions at Gold-i, including Senior Support Engineer and Technical Support Engineer.
