BCSC Promotes Peter Brady to Executive Director, Secures Douglas Muir as Chief of Enforcement
- The Canadian regulator revamps its executive team with two new appointments.

The British Columbia Securities Commission (BCSC), one of the thirteen provincial financial regulators in Canada, has selected its longtime veteran Peter Brady for the position of Executive Director, effective September 7, 2016.

As the incoming chief administrative officer of the commission, Mr. Brady will be assuming a new leadership role in overseeing the financial and administrative affairs and directing the activities of the staff to effectively enforce the Securities Act.
Mr. Brady first landed at BCSC in 2012 when he served as Director of Corporate Finance, leading a number of initiatives related to venture markets and capital raising. Most recently, he served as Director of Enforcement. Before joining the BCSC, Peter worked as General Counsel of Qtrade Financial Group, a national wealth management company with investment dealers, mutual funds and insurance businesses.
Mr. Brady holds a B.A. degree from Queens University and a law degree from the University of Victoria. In addition, he is a member of the Law Society of British Columbia.
According to Brenda M. Leong, Chair and CEO of the BCSC, in a recent statement on the appointment: "Peter brings a wealth of capital markets and regulatory experience to his new role. The provincial regulator has also named Douglas Muir as its new Director of Enforcement effective September 7, 2016.
Douglas has been a mainstay at BCSC since 2004 and his promotion comes after a lengthy stint at the watchdog’s Enforcement division. He initially served as Associate General Counsel in the office of the Chair where he provided expert legal advice on a variety of matters including administrative law procedures and freedom of information.
Prior to joining the BCSC, Mr. Muir served as litigation counsel at Farris for six years, and earlier in his career he also worked as an associate at Bolton and Muldoon. Douglas holds a law degree from the University of British Columbia, and a B.A. from Western University.
"Doug's deep understanding of securities and administrative law, and broad regulatory experience make him uniquely qualified to bring strategic leadership to our critical Enforcement efforts. I welcome Doug to our senior management team and look forward to working with him to continue to enhance our Enforcement capabilities," added BCSC’s CEO in an accompanying statement.
