CME Group, one of the world’s largest derivatives exchanges, today announced the appointment of Cees Vermaas as Managing Director and CEO of CME Europe. Mr. Vermaas will lead the company’s London-based derivatives Exchange as of January 2nd, 2015, subject to regulatory (FCA) approval.

Mr. Vermaas is expected to report to William Knottenbelt, CME Group Senior Managing Director for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), as CME Europe continues its development since its initial launch in April this year. At the time of writing, the exchange offers 30 FX futures products and 7 biofuel products, although this line up is expected to expand rapidly under Mr. Vermaas.

Mr. Vermaas has served as CEO of NYSE Euronext Amsterdam and as a member of the Management Committee of NYSE Euronext since 2010, with global responsibility for international business development for cash and listings.

As well as having served on half a dozen advisory boards in a 22 year career, Mr. Vermaas' prior roles have also included Executive Vice President, Head of European Cash Markets, where he was responsible for NYSE Euronext's European cash trading business, including Equities , fixed income, operations, projects and business development. His background also includes a decade of working in IT and commercial roles at leading Dutch and international companies.
