Revolut confirmed a service disruption on Tuesday 20 October after customers reported problems opening the app and paying by card. Its support said on X that it was experiencing “a service disruption affecting multiple features” and that engineers were working to restore full service.

Revolut's Service-Wide Outage

Downdetector showed a spike around 8 am with more than 1,500 reports, according to City AM. Users in the UK, France and Spain reported disruption, and customers in Romania and Ireland also reported problems. Some users said login attempts returned a “something went wrong” message. Yahoo Finance UK reported that users said their physical cards had also stopped working in stores.

The service status page of the fintech is also showing disruption across services, including sign-ins, card payments, transfers and an array of other services.

Separately, Google Cloud’s status page reported elevated errors and intermittent network failures across multiple services, including Google Kubernetes Engine and Cloud Filestore, in its London region, europe-west2.

The incident began at 23:08 US Pacific time on 19 October (06:08 UTC on 20 October). Google said its engineers were investigating and listed no workaround. The page does not mention Revolut, and Revolut has not named a cause.

Although the reason behind Revolut’s outage remains unknown, the fintech has a partnership with Google Cloud.

Revolut says it serves more than 80 million personal customers and more than 800,000 business customers, with an estimated 13 million in the UK.

Outages Are Frequent

Finance Magnates reported in June 2020 that Revolut was dealing with a technical issue that left users unable to register, verify accounts or top up balances. The company said it was not caused by a hack and later said “everything should be working again”. It had more than eight million customers at the time.

An AWS outage on 20 October 2025 disrupted Robinhood and Coinbase, with Downdetector logging more than 2,000 AWS-related reports by mid-morning US time. In April 2025, Binance and KuCoin temporarily halted withdrawals because of an AWS disruption.

In November last year, a three-hour Cloudflare fault affected broker websites including Monaxa, Skilling, Xtrade and FXPro. Finance Magnates estimated about $1.58 billion in trading volume may have been affected. Leverate CEO Ran Strauss described Cloudflare as “a critical component in the security infrastructure” of FX and CFD brokers.

Cloudflare maintenance later briefly took Skilling, The5ers and My Funded Futures offline, in a second outage within three weeks. Earlier this year, Coinbase restored trading after a six-hour AWS-related outage linked to increased temperatures at an AWS facility in northern Virginia.
