Mobile-app-based transportation network, Uber, has secured the services of Rachel Whetstone, Google’s veteran head of public policy and communications, as its newest Senior Vice President (SVP) of policy and communications, according to an Uber statement.
The move to secure Ms. Whetstone represents an effort to help steer Uber through a regulatory and legal gauntlet that has drawn the ire from a number of different countries and organizations worldwide. Uber has been a polarizing force across many cities, having been accused of undercutting prices and existing unions.

In her new role as the SVP at Uber’s policy and communications unit, Ms. Whetstone will be replacing ex-Obama advisor David Plouffe, who joined Uber in 2014. The new appointment will allow Mr. Plouffe to ease into the role of chief advisor and board member.
