PayPal Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:PYPL) has appointed fintech entrepreneur Wences Casares as the newest addition to its Board of Directors, whose move is tendered with immediate effect.

Mr. Casares is a longtime fintech veteran and thought leader throughout the cryptocurrency realm. In his new role on PayPal’s Board of Directors, he will serve on its Compensation Committee. His presence will increase PayPal’s Board of Directors to nine members.

Mr. Casares currently serves as the founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Xapo. He has also founded technology and financial ventures in the US, Latin America and Europe, including online brokerage, Patagon.

According to Dan Schulman, President and CEO of PayPal, in a recent statement on the appointment: “I join PayPal’s directors and the entire PayPal team in welcoming Wences to our Board. Wences’s unique line of sight into the future of commerce is ideally aligned with PayPal’s vision of transforming the management and movement of money for people around the globe.”
