Cunningham will be working with Spiros Giannaros, focusing on thinkFolio's product management & support
IHS Markit
IHS Markit has announced its newest appointment, installing Tom Cunningham as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) for its thinkFolio product. He will be tasked with leading thinkFolio’s product management, services, support and managed service offering, following a lengthy career spanning over two decades.
thinkFolio is Markit’s cross-asset-class order management (OMS) and portfolio modelling system (PMS). The investment management platform is one of the group’s key segments, which supports a variety of cash management and FX, fixed income modeling, and loans functionality. Representing one of Markit's key buyside offerings, the hire helps reinforce a fast growing segment for the group.
In his new role as the COO of thinkFolio, Mr. Cunningham will be reporting to Spiros Giannaros, Global Head of thinkFolio and Enterprise Data Management (EDM) at IHS Markit. He steps into his role with immediate effect and will be based out of the group’s London office. Together with Mr. Giannaros, Cunningham will focus on the unit’s product management, services, and support, which represents a natural Bridge from other Buy-Side cloud-based managed service.
Mr. Giannaros commented: “I’m delighted to welcome Tom to the growing thinkFolio team. Tom joins us at an exciting time when we are expanding our presence across regions and investing heavily in the next generation architecture of thinkFolio, as well as adding the solution to our managed service offering.”
Tom Cunningham
Cunningham is no stranger to the technology industry, having held several senior level roles for the past twenty-five years. He joins Markit’s thinkFolio from Jupiter Asset Management, having worked as its Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for over three years – his tenure saw him oversee the management of the group’s IT and operations.
He has held several additional roles at technology providers, including Threadneedle Asset Management as its Head of Front Office Technology and others dating back to 1990, according to information made public on his Linkedin profile.
The appointment represents IHS Markit’s latest appointment since its tranche of hires back in June 2017. Randy Hebert, Stuart Crooks, and Steven Singh all joined the group earlier this year as part of IHS Markit’s push to grow its FX business.

Altima CTO Sunil Jadhav: Solving Data Fragmentation & Lag for Brokers & Prop Firms
Altima CTO Sunil Jadhav: Solving Data Fragmentation & Lag for Brokers & Prop Firms
Altima CTO Sunil Jadhav sits down with Finance Magnates to discuss the core technology challenges facing CFD brokers and proprietary trading firms today.
Jadhav explains how the industry's reliance on batch processing and fragmented systems (where CRMs, risk tools, and trading platforms operate with separate 'sources of truth') leads to delayed data and inconsistent operational decisions. He argues that real-time event processing is essential for managing fast-moving trading activity and risk.
Learn how Altima's unified, event-driven architecture, connecting Altima CRM, Altima Prop, IB systems, and risk management through a single backbone, is designed to provide synchronous data and better operational coordination for modern brokerage and prop firm stacks.
Key Topics:
- Broker and Prop Firm Data Challenges
- The problem of delayed data processing (batch processing vs. real-time events)
- Fragmented systems and conflicting data sources
- Altima's unified, event-driven solution architecture
- The concept of a "risk-aware CRM"
- Built-in risk management in Altima Prop
