Suspect in attempted rape, murder case sought to buy Bitcoin with victims' credit cards

Wesh.com reports that Shawn Thomas, 30, faces charges for attempted kidnapping, rape and murder. He plotted to lure a family to a vacant home in Longwood, near Orlando, Florida, under the guise of producing a movie or TV show.

Thomas was unknowingly recorded by a confidential informant when detailing his plans. He said that he had been planning the crime for over 10 years and is confident that he won't get caught. He had watched crime dramas and TV shows to see how crimes are planned. He added, "I don't want to go through life and not do it at least once. At the same time, I know doing it at least once makes it that much easier to do it again." The recording concludes with authorities yelling for Thomas to get to the ground, followed by his arrest.

He planned on recording the entire episode and sought one more person to pose as his "camera guy" to make the proposal seem more legit.

He nearly succeeded. One family who had arrived at the house left after becoming suspicious.

Thomas also planned on buying bitcoins with the victims' credit cards, since they cannot be tracked.

There are now several services allowing one to buy bitcoins via credit card, although they're more of a rarity in the US. Expresscoin said in a recent interview that while they do not currently support such Payments , they plan to do so in the future.
