Coinbase has announced its launch of an integrated tipping button, allowing a site’s users to send microtransactions for appreciated content.

Coinbase has announced its launch of an integrated tipping button, allowing a site’s users to send microtransactions for appreciated content.

Websites require only a Coinbase account to enable the button. Users can tip using either their Coinbase account or a different wallet, although the company points out the convenience of tipping while already logged in your Coinbase account.

Coinbase notes how 30% of transfers on its platform are of the microtransaction (< $1.00) variety. Crypto tipping has become very popular of late. Such transactions would not be practical with traditional payment methods, whose costs per transaction outweigh the amount transacted.

In addition to further diversifying Coinbase’s offering, the new feature increases the stickiness of its overall ecosystem when a web surfer stays logged into its platform for tipping purposes.

Fifteen bloggers, podcasters and platforms have already incorporated the feature.
