Wikimedia Foundation (WMF) is mulling the acceptability of bitcoin donations in the midst of increasing interest from bitcoin owners, who are said to claim that they would otherwise not donate.
WMF is looking at ‘both sides of the coin’. On the one hand, some passionate members in the Wikimedia community are wary of further inflation of what some consider to be a cryptocurrency bubble, as such activity is counterproductive to their mandate of strict neutrality in all matters. On the other hand, donation activity to WMF is probably negligible enough to make any dent in the currency’s price activity.
Others are skeptical of the net benefit to WMF when the costs to develop such technology are accounted for. In addition, the uncertainty in the currency’s day-to-day value adds further risk to the profitability of such a venture.

And even others render the debate as irrelevant, as there are no shortage of other online facilities where BTC payments can be made or exchanged for this purpose.
