Coinkite has announced that you can now send Bitcoin, or any of its other supported cryptocurrencies, via SMS.
For privacy, the SMS will arrive from Coinkite’s SMS number, so as not to reveal the sender’s mobile details.
Senders also have the option of embedding the PIN information for redemption in the SMS, or to send it separately.

Receivers do not have to have a Coinkite account in order to receive the funds.
The SMS doesn’t have to be sent from the web form. It can also be sent via Coinkite’s API.
SMS functionality offers another dimension for Bitcoin transactions. Recipients don’t need access to a smartphone or even the internet to actuate the transaction from their end. CoinPip launched a similar solution in May, and is specifically targeting regions with limited 3G network availability.
