Interactive Brokers has introduced a feature that allows eligible clients to authorise connected artificial intelligence platforms to identify trading opportunities and submit supported orders without approving each trade individually.

London's trading industry is coming home!

The move follows the broker's earlier expansion of AI integrations. In June, Interactive Brokers introduced an integration with Claude that allowed clients to analyse portfolios and generate trading instructions for review. It later expanded its connections to ChatGPT, Grok and other AI tools. Autonomous Trading adds the option for these systems to submit orders on clients' behalf.

Called IBKR Autonomous Trading, the feature covers more than 75,000 listed stocks, options and exchange-traded funds worldwide. Clients can define trading instructions in natural language and set the conditions under which connected AI systems can act.

The feature operates through a dedicated AI Partition within an existing account. Clients can fund it by transferring money from their main account, without opening a separate account or making an external deposit.

Interactive Brokers said the AI operates within client-defined instructions, subject to account restrictions and safeguards designed to help manage risk.

Milan Galik, Chief Executive Officer of Interactive Brokers, said the feature builds on the company's use of automation .

“IBKR Autonomous Trading builds on that approach, allowing clients to define their trading strategies and safeguards while connected AI monitors markets and executes trades within those parameters,” Galik said.

AI Trading Includes Volatility and Portfolio Rules

Clients can set conditions for monitoring implied volatility , reviewing positions that fall below a specified price level, or reducing holdings that exceed portfolio allocation limits.

They can also instruct the AI to sell 30-day covered calls when a holding's implied volatility reaches the 90th percentile of its range over the previous 52 weeks. All actions remain subject to supported order types and account restrictions.

Interactive Brokers' existing AI Integration connects accounts to platforms including ChatGPT, Claude, Grok and Perplexity through the Model Context Protocol, without sharing API keys or passwords.

The broker also offers AI Screeners, Investment Themes and Connections tools. Access to Autonomous Trading depends on country, regulatory and account eligibility, and is subject to funding and other limits that may change over time.
