  • The connector, still in alpha testing, needs the client’s approval in chat before any order goes through.
  • It runs on Claude’s free plan, while TradeStation asks for Claude Pro and a $10,000 balance.

Axi said today (Wednesday) that eligible clients can connect their MetaTrader 5 (MT5) accounts to Claude, Anthropic's AI assistant, and use it to place trades. The link runs through the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard for connecting AI tools to outside data and services.

Through Claude, clients can check live prices, open, modify and close positions, place pending orders and adjust stop-loss and take-profit levels, according to the connector's website. Axi describes the service as being in alpha testing.

London's trading industry is coming home!

The entry cost on the AI side is zero. Axi says the connector works on Claude's free plan, which allows one custom connector, while TradeStation requires a Claude Pro subscription and a $10,000 account balance for its MCP link.

Axi built the integration on MT5 , whose developer MetaQuotes added native AI agents and MCP support in a July beta.

Approval in Chat, With an Exception

Any trade or order action needs the client's explicit approval in the chat before it goes through, the connector's website says.

Leverate built the same step into its own product. Its MCP for Traders restates each order and waits for a yes in the trader's AI app, and brokers must switch the feature on.

Axi's help center adds that Claude "is not an automated strategy or Expert Advisor (EA)." It acts only when a client asks, unless the client has set a specific action to "Always allow" in Claude's permission settings.

Interactive Brokers lets Claude draft trades but requires manual sign-off on each order, a setup it launched in June for equities and ETFs.

How Far Rivals Let AI Trade

"AI is creating new opportunities to rethink how traders interact with technology," Axi Global Head of Sales Santiago Vazquez-Munoz said in the announcement.

ThinkMarkets' ChelseaAI server lets AI models execute orders on ThinkTrader but not access funds, the broker said when it launched in June.

Match-Trade opened its MCP to retail traders on October 5, with an option for compatible clients to require approval for each action.

CMC Markets went the other way. Its ChatGPT link for UK clients is read-only and cannot trade, change orders or move money.

Who Can Connect

Only active MT5 accounts, verified or unverified, can connect. Accounts that run only on MT4 or the Axi trading platform are excluded.

Clients add Axi as a custom connector in Claude, enter the broker's MCP address and approve access by logging in with their Axi credentials. Axi support can guide them but cannot set up the connection on their behalf.

The help center also says Claude is not a financial advisor and that its answers are not trade recommendations. Axi said the integration does not remove trading risk and that clients remain responsible for their trading decisions.
