Mobile parking application Pango is expanding its reach in the US and is now offering their pay-by-mobile service in Alexandria VA.

Pango started in Israel as an automated phone parking service. Over the years the service evolved into a mobile application, and allows users to simply press a button to begin a parking session. The setup is simple, the users enter their license plate numbers and credit card details, so whenever the users are interested in parking, they can open the app and click the start parking button. Pango uses GPS to verify your location, so the car is registered in the correct area when you park.

The application can also be used for off-street garages with participating parking lots. Stores and restaurants can also offer complimentary or discounted parking with the use of prepaid codes.

The service was brought to the US at the beginning of the year, and before Alexandria, was already available in Phoenix AZ, New York City, Auburn NY, Towson MD, and Scranton PA. Pango charges standard parking rates with a $0.24 or $0.29 convenience fee, depending on the payment method used. In addition to the mobile phone application, Pango will also offer an automated phone service in Alexandria. Alexandria will be the first US city to incorporate pay-by-phone parking according to Pango.

As a promotion, Pango will offer the first 2 hours of parking free of charge, and will waive the convenience fee until March 1st, 2014.

The Pango parking application is available for iOS, Android, and BlackBerry devices.
