The Copenhagen based multi-asset online broker under the Saxo Bank brand appoints a new Head of Group HR and member of the bank's Executive Management Group, as it plans to move its strategic growth plan ahead.
Tony Bainbridge, Saxo Bank Head of Group HR and Executive Management Group
A key hire and executive move announced today by Denmark’s Saxo Bank, the multi-asset Online Trading broker has appointed a new Head of Group HR, Tony Bainbridge, who joins as part of the Executive Management Group, as the bank prepares for its next phase of planned business growth, both locally and abroad.
Mr. Bainbridge is expected to relocate to Saxo Bank’s headquarters in Copenhagen, and will be supported by Deputy head of HR, Ditte Buchwald. The Danish FX Bank has broadly diversified its offering to include other asset classes and employs some 1,400 staff globally as quoted below, with a team of eleven HR personnel at its HQ, two in APAC regions, and three in its UK office, according to people familiar with the story as told to Forex Magnates' reporters.
New Board, New Plans
The company announced new board members at the close of 2013, as high-level changes are expected to benefit the planned execution next steps of the firm's strategic growth agenda. As the firm offloaded several of its previous acquisitions last year, it will focus more on its core business lines, according to Forex Magnates' research.
According to Tony Bainbridge, this increasing internationalization of the leadership team at Saxo Bank reflects the company’s growing global presence and expansion into new markets. Looking at his background, as described in the press release, Mr. Bainbridge seems like a worldly candidate.
Commenting in the official press release from Saxo Bank, Mr. Bainbridge said regarding his appointment, "My aim is to reflect Saxo Bank's growing global presence and expansion into new markets in the leadership of the Bank. Matteo's appointment should of course also be seen in this light. Moreover, it's critical that each of the 1,400 employees around the world specifically and individually contribute to Saxo Bank's overall goal to be the most professional and transparent facilitator of financial products and services in the global capital markets."
Diverse Background in HR Roles Across Industries and Continents
According to press release, Mr. Bainbridge joined Saxo Bank from Rexam Plastics, part of Rexam PLC, where he was HR Director, and was noted as having extensive experience across the consumer goods, manufacturing, technology and hospitality sectors, having also served as Global HR Director for CIBA Vision and Edwards High Vacuum. He has also served as Senior Vice President HR for EMEA for InterContinental Hotels Group. He has lived and worked in Switzerland, the US and Poland and also spent three years as Managing Director of the French business of CIBA Vision. His early career was spent at Mars and PepsiCo in both commercial and HR roles in the UK and continental Europe. Tony holds a degree in economics, psychology and French from the University of Durham.
The news follows the recent senior appointment by Saxo Bank when it announced Matteo Cassina as Global Head of Institutional Business, and the new trading floor was just announced, as reported by Forex Magnates.

A reminder that strong financial journalism is built on value, not volume.
