Mitrade has hired Christopher Brankin, who ran the Singapore businesses of TD Ameritrade and later Capital.com, as global markets advisor, the CFD broker said today (Thursday). The release describes a commentary role.
Brankin will publish analysis of macroeconomic trends, interest rates and market volatility for the Melbourne-founded broker's retail clients, according to the announcement.
The broker, which reports more than 7 million traders, put out the news in two regional versions. One, from Melbourne, tied it to Australian interest rates.
The other, from Dubai, tied it to oil prices and the Gulf, where Mitrade added a Category 5 license from the UAE Capital Market Authority in April.

In August, Mitrade promoted Timur Konsky to chief executive of its EU unit, with Germany as the first market for a European retail push.
From TD Ameritrade to Capital.com
Brankin spent close to 15 years at TD Ameritrade's Asian arm, 11 of them as chief executive of its Singapore entity. He left in 2022 to become chief executive and executive director of Capital.com's Singapore business, replacing Chul Lim, who moved up to run Asia.

As of March, Capital.com said it was still in the process of obtaining approval from the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) as it advertised for a local risk manager.
Mitrade's announcement describes the Capital.com job only as heading regional expansion for a CFD brokerage. Brankin is currently listed as chief operating officer of Whisky Cask Club, a Singapore seller of Scotch whisky casks, on that company's website.
Other Brokers Hired Media Commentators
The Melbourne release linked his role to the Reserve Bank of Australia's decision in late September to lift its cash rate to 4.60%, the highest since November 2011, citing higher global energy prices.
"There's no such thing as an isolated local market anymore," Brankin said in the release.
iFOREX appointed Michael Hewson as senior market analyst in April, about two years after he stepped down as chief analyst at CMC Markets after 15 years.
FXTM recruited CNBC Arabia host Hussein Al Sayed as chief market strategist for the Gulf in 2016, while he kept presenting his show.
Mitrade holds licenses from six regulators, including in Australia, Cyprus and the UAE. It added South Africa in October 2025 by buying Fridah Asset Managers, a firm licensed by the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA).
