Cooper joined Axi in 2016 and spent nearly nine years helping transform the company from a regional Australian trading firm into a global broker serving clients across more than 100 countries. He will remain a shareholder in the company following his departure.

The executive's career in foreign exchange and contracts for difference trading began in 1999 when he joined CMC Markets as managing director for Australia and New Zealand, a role he held for 13 years until 2012. He then moved to OANDA as managing director for the same regions from 2013 to 2015 before joining Axi.

Nine-Year Transformation at Axi

Cooper's tenure at Axi coincided with significant growth for the Sydney-based firm. As global head of retail from 2016 to 2019, then as Chief Commercial Officer from 2019 onward, he oversaw the company's expansion across key markets including Southeast Asia, China, the UK, Europe and the Middle East.

“Louis has played an integral role in building Axi into the global brand it is today,” CEO Rajesh Yohannan said in a statement. “While we will miss him, we are immensely grateful for his contributions and pleased that he will remain connected to Axi as a shareholder and ongoing supporter of our mission.”

Cooper participated in Axi's 2022 management buyout, becoming one of the company's leading management shareholders when the executive team acquired the business from private equity investors.

Industry Veteran Reflects on Career

Looking back on his time with Axi, Cooper expressed confidence in the company's future direction under its current leadership team.

“It has been a privilege to be part of Axi's remarkable journey,” Cooper said. “I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished together. I leave knowing that Axi is in strong, capable hands, and I have absolute confidence in the Executive and Senior Management Team to take the company forward to even greater heights.”

The company has not yet announced Cooper's successor or provided details about additional leadership changes. Axi offers forex, CFD, cryptocurrency, indices and commodities trading to retail clients globally.
