Cryptocurrencies are penetrating more and more into sports as American race car driver, Landon Cassill recently partnered with a crypto exchange, Voyager Digital, agreeing to receive part of his salary in digital currencies.

Announced on Thursday, Voyager has signed a 19-race sponsorship deal with Cassill and his racing team JD Motorsports.

Voyager detailed that the payment to Cassill and JD Motorsports will be made with a portfolio of cryptocurrencies that will include Litecoin and Voyager Token. He is becoming the first race driver to receive Payments in crypto.

“Well, I mean, there is risk in holding cryptocurrency as there is with any stock or any investment,” Cassill said in a statement. “But for me, it’s something I’m familiar with, I’m comfortable with, and I feel like I have a good handle on what I’m willing to risk, and what I need to pay my bills.”

The extent of the sponsorship deal will go beyond the payments as Cassill’s car will feature its first Voyager paint scheme in Saturday’s Tennessee Lottery 250.

Additionally, the 31-year old is interested in crypto beyond the race tracks and added the ‘laser eyes’ to his Twitter picture, showing his bullish stance towards digital currencies. Moreover, he tweeted that he started to mine Bitcoin in his basement.

Racing is one of the popular sports that attract a lot of eyeballs in the US and abroad. Jack Dorsey’s Square is promoting its Bitcoin exchange services with NASCAR sponsorship.

“There are a handful of pilots who like crypto, but I am probably one of the ones who has been around long enough, and I am quite comfortable with how it works,” said Cassill.

Meanwhile, a few crypto exchanges are sponsoring major international racing teams to promote their brands to the global audience.
