The website of one of the wallet services central to the Bitcoin community has been down for over 6 hours as at the time of writing. According to sources claiming to be familiar with the matter, the problem is related to the server running the website.
In an official communique published on Twitter, blockchain.info stated that the service is undergoing some maintenance. In the meantime, the community has focused on using some alternative solutions to verify transactions.
The first report on Reddit dates back about 7 hours as of the time of publication, meaning that the issue might have surfaced sometime around 07:00 GMT.
The official statement published on the Twitter account of the service reads, “We will be back shortly. Blockchain.info is currently down for maintenance. For status updates please see Twitter. Apologies for any inconvenience.”

This is not the first time that the service of Blockchain.info has gone down. Last March, the firm encountered issues that triggered an internal review. At the time, the service was suspended for over a day.
Various alternatives have been flagged by several users on Reddit commenting on the topic, including Blocktrail, Blockonomics, Coinkite, SmartBit and others.
