Mollie, one of the emerging payment services providers in Europe, announced the appointment of Koen Köppen, the former CTO of Klarna, today as the company’s new Chief Technology Officer. In his new role, Köppen will facilitate the company in the development of its financial services suite.

The newly appointed CTO at Mollie is planning to grow its engineering team. In an official press release shared with Finance Magnates, Mollie highlighted that the company is actively hiring.

“Having spent more than a decade in fintech and having helped Klarna to scale across Europe and beyond, I’m here to help Mollie harness its huge opportunity for growth,” says Köppen. “Mollie is one of Europe’s most exciting high-growth businesses and is at the forefront of enabling small- and medium-sized online retailers to take on larger e-commerce competitors. I'm thrilled to be supporting its journey to level the playing field by offering effortless financial services.”

Köppen's former company Klarna, which is also one of the most valuable fintech firms in the world, recently headlined the news after the announcement of a 10% cut in its workforce. Following Klarna’s announcement, many leading fintech companies, including Wise, Revolut and Payabl announced the opening of several fintech roles in their firms.

Köppen’s New Role

In his new position, Köppen will be responsible for the reliability, scalability and development of Mollie’s technology platforms. He will expand the company’s existing products and services and will work on the development of technology-driven products to accelerate Mollie’s growth.

“We’re excited to welcome Koen and his wealth of experience to the Mollie management team,” says Shane Happach, the CEO at Mollie. “This was a unique opportunity for Mollie to secure an experienced leader with deep expertise in the financial ecosystem. Koen has led large teams through many of the modern-day, complex challenges, and he is the perfect person to help continue to scale our business.”
