SIX Swiss Exchange, Europe's third-largest stock exchange and top post-trade service provider, has reversed the two-month decline it previously recorded in its total trading turnover.

The stock exchange’s turnover reached CHF 78.3 billion in August, which is a 1.3% month-over-month (MoM) gain from the CHF 77.2 billion it posted in July.

On the contrary, the total number of transactions made on the exchange declined 2.3% to 4,028,431 in August.

These figures are contained in SIX Swiss Exchange’s key trading figures for August 2022 published on Thursday.

In July, the exchange recorded a two-month decline in its trading turnover, dropping -21% from June’s CHF 97.8 billion and -10.7% from May’s CHF 109.4 billion.

However, while SIX Swiss Exchange recorded MoM growth in its total trading turnover in August, on a year-to-date (YTD) basis, the turnover receded 0.8% when compared to the same period in 2021.

The exchange, which had seen a 12% year-over-year growth in net profit between January and June 2022, generated CHF 861.3 billion in total trading turnover during the first eight months of 2022.

On top of that, SIX Swiss Exchange reported that the total number of transactions made on its platform between January and August this year remained flat when compared to the same period last year.

A total of 42,557,270 transactions were recorded year-to-date.

“The highest turnover on a single trading day was recorded on 17 August, which saw securities worth a total volume of CHF 6.4 billion changing hands. The highest number of trades was recorded on 2 August, with 241,927,” the exchange noted.

Additionally, SIX Swiss Exchange returned a flat performance in its results for the first half (H1) of the year when compared to H1 2021.
