MOEX Reports Slump in Money Market, Spike in Equities Trading for September

Last year’s report indicates that MOEX saw a total trading volume of RUB 80.4 trillion ($1.23 trillion) in September of 2017. For the same period this year, the exchange reported a total trading volume of RUB 71.1 trillion ($1.09 trillion) - a 12 percent decline.
Money markets were the primary reason for that decline in trading volumes. September of 2017 saw MOEX reporting a total money market trading volume of RUB 39.6 trillion ($610 billion). Tuesday’s report shows that the exchange saw a 21 percent decline for the same figure this September, with money market trading volume of RUB 31.3 trillion.

In most other markets, MOEX saw minor increases in its trading volumes. Looking at the FX market, for instance, we can see that this September MOEX managed to increase its trading volume to RUB 27.1 trillion. That was a 2.6 percent increase on last year’s RUB 26.4 trillion.
