FXDD Europe has announced the launch of FXDD Options Trader, an FX options trading platform. Options Trader is powered by currency options technology provider FXBridge Technologies. The platform provides trading in 22 currency pairs. Options Trader also comes integrated with StrategyOptimizer modeling tool, and allows for trading of both Spot and options on the same interface.
For an interesting debate on FX Options, Stephen Best, CEO of FXBridge was a panelist during our ‘Financial Trends’ panel in last November’s London Summit where he sparred with Tim Howkins, CEO of IG Group about the product. This is a review of the panel discussion from our Q4 Forex Industry Report:
Stephen Best (L) and Tim Howkins
In this panel, moderated by Manus Cranny of Bloomberg, the discussion focused around emerging product trends. As the sole broker representative, Tim Howkins, CEO of IG Group stated that he saw non-forex products being a larger driver of trading in the future, and as a result was steering his company towards more CFD offerings. He added that the shift was also due to forex margins being stagnant for several years….. Stephen Best, CEO of FX Bridge stated that innovation in forex options was lagging the broader market and 95% of trades are still taking place in the same method they did 20 years ago. As such, there was a lot of room for advancements to take place in the forex options space. Specifically, Best believed that a lack of education was the primary reason the product has barely evolved. Arguing on this point, Howkins believed that overall he was seeing clients favor CFDs rather than using options. Additionally, he added that in countries with thriving options markets, when his company introduced CFDs in those regions, traders migrated away from options.
