  • The neobroker's founder and Co-CEO acknowledges that users might hesitate before trusting ChatGPT with portfolio management.
  • However, demand has been brewing, especially on the retail brokerage side, with MetaQuotes hitting 1 trillion tokens since its integration release.

Munich-based neobroker Scalable Capital, backed by Tencent's deep pockets, has entered the agentic trading arena, enabling its one million clients to connect their accounts to AI platforms to analyze their portfolios and place trades.

The neobroker has made a name for itself in Europe, mainly Germany and Austria, by offering stock and crypto brokerage, automated wealth management, and high-yield savings accounts.

Speaking to Reuters, Scalable Capital’s founder and Co-CEO, Erik Podzuweit, described the launch as a “first step”, acknowledging that retail investors may initially hesitate before trusting automated AI agents with their investment decisions.

Demand is Brewing Among the Tech Savvy

Demand for AI-enabled trading, however, has already been brewing among tech-savvy traders. Earlier this year, an independent developer built an unofficial, read-only MCP server on top of Scalable Capital's CLI tool so they could securely ask Claude questions about their portfolio.

Meanwhile, MetaQuotes hit 1 trillion tokens since its July MCP release, with most of the use concentrated in a cluster of the platform provider's global user base.

Similarly, when Robinhood introduced its own version, around 50,000 of its roughly 14 million active users tested the feature within the first month.

Still Inside a Sandbox

Scalable Capital has emphasized that the integration is backed by “significant safeguards” and “a number of security measures,” a move that mirrors the approach across the retail brokerage industry.

So far, early AI integrations are largely kept witin controlled boundaries. Brokers have introduced safety measures ranging from carving out separate trading accounts to spending controls and manual trade approvals.

The lack of regulatory clarity has placed control inside the risk and engineering teams of brokers, trading platforms and now neobrokers.
