Square Cash works by linking a debit or credit card for sending funds and linking a bank account to receive funds. Users are not required to sign up for Square to utilize the service. However linking a card and bank account is necessary to complete a transaction. The funds transferred are not held in any sort of account balance and are deposited directly into the recipient’s bank account.

Fund requests can also be sent to groups of recipients, with the ability for the sender to check on the amount due from those requested.
