TradeZero Holding Corp., an operator of various broker-dealer subsidiaries, has appointed Orion Szathmary as the Chief Executive Officer of TradeZero Canada Securities ULC, a subsidiary it launched earlier this year.

The firm made the new appointment nine months after it was accepted as a dealer member of the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada (IIROC) and became qualified to provide equity and options trading on US markets to retail traders in Canada.

Szathmary was the Vice President of Technology and Operations Strategy at RBC Direct Investing until his appointment. In a career spanning over 15 years, the executive worked with a number of Canadian online brokerages in technology and operations strategy, product development and client engagement roles.

Daniel Pipitone, the CEO and Co-Founder of TradeZero Holding, noted that Szathmary is joining the firm with a “comprehensive wealth of experience and expertise.” The Bahamas-based company believes that this will make an “immediate impact on our operations and growth initiatives going forward." At RBC, Szathmary “led several transformational programs and helped RBC regain market share growth in its online brokerage business,” TradeZero added.

Szathmary’s Career Journey

Before RBC Direct, Szathmary was the Managing Director of Product Development at Victor Direct for over two years. For eight months in 2020, he was the Vice President of Product, Platform Strategy and Client Engagement at QTrade, a stock brokerage based in Vancouver, Canada.

He first joined RBC in July 2017 as the Senior Manager of Strategy at RBC InvestEase. He would later become the Director of Product Strategy and Insight at RBC Direct Investing in June 2018.

Szathmary’s longest career stay was at the Toronto-Dominion (TD), the sixth-largest bank in North America in terms of branches. He started as an Investment Representative at TD in November 2006 and rose to become the Senior Manager of National Sales, Support and Marketing in May 2012.

He was later appointed the Director of Client Education Strategy in September 2013, which was a position he fulfilled for almost four years before joining RBC for the first time in July 2017.

TradeZero through its subsidiaries offers commission-free stock trading to retail traders. The holding company also offers direct market access to U.S. equities and equity options trading.
