Flutterwave, a prominent payments technology company in Africa, recently announced that the firm has appointed Oneal Bhambani, an industry veteran in the financial and technology sector, as its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

Bhambani has joined the company from global financial payments giant American Express. In his broad career of more than two decades, Bhambani worked with several leading names in the financial industry, including UBS and Riverwood Capital.

"It is a rare opportunity to join a high-scale, de facto market leader in one of the fastest-growing markets in the world. I am looking forward to partnering with Flutterwave's team to enable solutions for our customers in Africa and across the globe. I fully expect to apply best-in-class strategies learned from my tenures at American Express and Kabbage,” Bhambani commented on his appointment.

According to the details shared by Flutterwave in the press release, the company has expanded its Finance Team in the past few months and brought in people with a strong track record in treasury, controllership and taxation.

Expansion

The announcement of Bhambani’s appointment came just a few months after the company closed its Series D funding round and received a valuation of more than $3 billion. Flutterwave aims to increase the adoption of digital payments across the African region.

Olugbenga Agboola, the Founder and CEO of Flutterwave, said: "I am excited to welcome Oneal to Flutterwave. His track record of operating finance to enable scale and innovation with listed company standard financial controls will help us accelerate our growth as we continue to meet the needs of our expanding global customer base. I am also looking forward to working with Oneal on deal-related initiatives, given the number of inorganic opportunities we are seeing in today's market environment.”
