Britians Prince Harry helped City brokers BGC Partners to break a world record on Monday as he ‘assisted’ the firm’s brokers with an incredible €18 billion trade during their Charity Day.

The Prince shouted “18 yards" into the phone to seal the deal and make the biggest ever single trade in the history of the forward FX currency market, raising £10,000 for charity.

Hundreds of famous faces gathered on the huge trading floor of the company’s Canary Wharf offices and in their branches around the world, to help raise hundreds of thousands of pounds for a variety of good causes.

Trades were ‘assisted’ by everyone from Boris Johnson to Greta Scacchi and Frankie Dettori as the company donated the day’s profits and brokers pledged their commissions at the event, now in its seventh year.

“I’m delighted to see that you’re all so busy making money that you’re not listening to me,” joked Boris Johnson in a speech to the trading floor just after the market opened. “Today we pay tribute to this temple of Mammon,” he added.

Shortly after, in a trade with Citibank he told the client “British government debt is an absolute bargain at the moment.”

BGC Partners, an affiliate of Cantor Fitzgerald, holds the Charity Day each year to commemorate the 658 employees who lost their lives in the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center.

To date, BGC and its Affiliates have raised $65 million for charities. They hope to exceed the $10 million (£6.6million) raised last year.
