Windows Phone is Microsoft's operating system for mobile devices. According to the latest research by Gartner, it commands less than 1% of the smartphone market which is dominated by Google's Android and Apple's iOS.

BitPay has been dedicated to supporting the relatively small community of Windows Phone users since the launch of its Copay wallet in the Windows Store back in January of 2015.

The developers say that the new wallet application integrates the ease-of-use and security of the Copay wallet with BitPay's consumer Payments ecosystem, especially its prepaid Visa debit card for bitcoin users.

Bringing the BitPay wallet to the Windows Phone is only a small part of the company’s work for Microsoft users in recent years.

In late 2015, Microsoft added its Bitcore Bitcoin development platform to its Azure cloud service platform. Back in 2014, Microsoft became the most prominent company to accept bitcoin payments, using BitPay for Xbox payments and other purchases its online Windows Store.

The BitPay team commented: “Microsoft's continued commitment to Blockchain technology and interest in smart contracts makes our bitcoin wallet platform – the foundation of many exciting smart contract projects – a powerful addition to the Windows Phone app ecosystem.”
